Winona will host a basketball tournament for boys and girls Thursday and Saturday.
The tournament kicks off at 4 p.m. Thursday with a girls game between Choctaw County and Senatobia. That will be followed by Choctaw County vs. Senatobia boys, Winona vs. Eupora girls, and Winona vs. Eupora boys.
Consolation and championship games will be played Saturday beginning with the girls consolation game at 2 p.m.
It's a busy week for the Tigers and Lady Tigers. They played Nanih Waiya Tuesday and have home games with Ray Brooks Friday.
Boys coach Presley Coleman feels playing three days in a row will prepare his team for later in the season. “I want the kids to get used to playing on consecutive nights,” he said, pointing out that teams might have to play on back-to-back days in the district tournament.
Prior to Thanksgiving, the boys and girls teams played in the Oxford Chargers Challenge. The Tigers defeated Pillow Academy 61-43, but the Lady Tigers were defeated by West Union 51-13.
The boys game was tied 25-25 at the half.
“Just like the French Camp game (a 60-24 Winona victory), we had a big third quarter,” Coleman said. “We were able to get some stops defensively and get out in transition. That's how we opened it up.”
Jalen Daniels and Clifford Lee had 21 points each for the Tigers and Damariya Mister added 10.
