The Winona Christian Lady Stars got off to a hot start to the season with four straight wins and claimed their own tournament title on Saturday.
The Lady Stars beat Indianola 6-0, Carroll 1-0, Benton 5-4 and then beat Manchester 7-4 to win the title.
Winona will return to play this week as they are set to travel to Starkville on Monday and Oak Hill on Tuesday. They will host Winston on Thursday and play at the Indianola on Saturday.
Winona Christian 7, Manchester 4
The Lady Stars captured their own tournament championship late on Saturday night with a three-run win over the Lady Mavericks.
Each team scored one in the first and third innings before the Lady Stars scored three in the fourth to go up 5-2. Each team scored two in the fifth for the final margin.
Winona outscored Manchester 6-4 in the contest. Ashleigh Parkinson was 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs scored. Haley Beckwith was 2-for-3 with a triple while Terri Cain was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Parkinson and Miranda McDaniel each had two stolen bases.
Sara Rawles pitched all five innings and gave up four runs on four hits and struck out one.
Winona Christian 1, Carroll 0
The Lady Stars scored a single run in the third to take a one-run over the Lady Rebels on Saturday.
Winona scored its only run in the third inning.
Winona outhit Carroll 5-1 in the contest. Lennie Wood was 2-for-2 an scored a run while Sara Rawles doubled and had the game’s only RBI. Hilary Beckwith and Kaylah Varnes each singled in the contest. Rawles pitched all four innings and gave up one hit and struck out five while walking one.
Winona Christian 5, Benton 4
The Lady Stars had two big innings and took a one-run win over the Lady Raiders on Saturday.
Benton scored three in the top of the third while Winona answered with two in the bottom of the first. Winona went ahead with three runs in the bottom of the third.
Winona had three hits while Madyson Leach singled and drove in two runs. Terri Cain singled, scored and drove in a run while Ashleigh Parkinson singled and scored a run. Allie Rawles pitched 4.1 innings and gave up four runs on six hits.
Winona Christian 6, Indianola 0
The Lady Stars opened the season with a shutout win over the Lady Colonels to open the season on Saturday.
Winona scored two runs in the first and four runs in the second.
Winona outhit Indianola 8-2 in the contest and took advantage of four errors.
Lennie Wood was 3-for-3 while Haley Beckwith tripled and drove in two runs. Hannah Robertson also tripled and scored a run while Katy Ware scored two runs. Sara Rawles pitched three innings and gave up two hits and struck out three.
