The Winona Christian Stars picked up two more wins this past week as they swept a doubleheader from Kirk Academy on Wednesday but lost a 5-1 decision to North Delta on Thursday.
Winona Christian will return to action this week when they travel to Meridian for a pair of games in the Rush Tournament as they will face Neshoba Central and Choctaw Central. On Saturday, the Stars are set to host North Delta.
Winona Christian 6, Kirk Academy 1
The Stars got a four-inning no-hitter from three pitchers as they took a five-run win over Kirk Academy on Wednesday.
Winona scored three runs in the first and third innings while Kirk scored one in the first.
Winona only had two hits in the contest but took advantage of three walks, three hit batters and five errors by Kirk. Latham Hill and James Holder each had RBI singles for Winona while Holland Ingram scored two runs. Hayden Self also had an RBI and scored a run while Choyce Diffey and Dalton Wiggins each scored runs.
Wyatt Chamblee pitched the first two innings and gave up one run on two walks while striking out two. Cade Marlow pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out one while Reed Roberts got the final two outs for Winona.
Winona Christian 10, Kirk 8
In an error-filled contest, Winona was able to scratch out a two-run win.
Winona scored two in the first and one in the third and led 3-1 after two. Winona followed with four in the third and two in the fourth and one in the fifth while Kirk scored three in the third and two in the fourth and fifth innings.
Winona had 12 hits in the contest as Austin Huggins was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Latham Hill was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Shaw Ferguson, Colby Marlow and Wyatt Chambley each had two hits apiece while Dalton Wiggins also scored two runs.
Blake Marlow pitched three innings and gave up four unearned runs on two hits and six walks while striking out four. Treyton Whitten pitched four innings and gave up four unearned runs on one hit and three walks while striking out five.
North Delta 5, Winona Christian 1
The Green Wave broke open a tie game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to take the win.
Winona scored one run in the top of the fourth before North Delta answered with one run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score. North Delta then scored four in the sixth to take the win.
Winona had just two hits in the contest, both singles by Blake Marlow and Latham Hill. Jay Evans scored Winona’s only run.
Austin Huggins pitched a solid game for Winona, going 5.1 innings and giving up two runs on three hits while striking out nine.
