Carroll Academy football coach Bo Milton was able to relive some of the glory days this past weekend.
Milton was recently inducted into the Parklane Academy Sports Hall of Fame and was honored at a banquet this past weekend.
“It was an honor to just be nominated,” Milton said. “To go in was an honor and a humbling experience for me. I had been nominated a couple of times and was really surprised to be selected.”
Milton went to Parklane from kindergarten through his senior year and played football and baseball at the McComb-based school.
Milton started at offensive and defensive tackle on the 1986 and 1987 teams that won the Class AAA state championship in football. The Pioneers beat vaunted Jackson Prep his junior year for the title and Clarksdale Lee his senior year for the title. The Pioneers were coached by Charlie Newlen.
“Parklane played for the state championship four years in a row,” Milton said. “We won it in '86 and '87. Even back then, all roads ran through Prep. They only took four teams in the playoffs back then and there were some really good teams in AAA. We had a really good football team.”
Milton said his favorite part of the weekend was being with his family and catching up with old friends.
“Several of the former coaches were there,” Milton said. “My family and my mom and dad were there. It was a great banquet. I got to hear a lot of stories and catch up with a lot of people. It’s a big family atmosphere at Parklane like it is at a lot of schools.”
After starring at Parklane, Milton played two years at Southwest Community College and then played two years at Northwestern State University.
