J.Z. George 2019 football team will hold Meet the Jags this Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. at the football field. Players, along with coaches and cheerleaders, will be introduced. A scrimmage game will be played following the introductions.
"We're going to play a little scrimmage afterwards. We only have three or four who are going both ways, but I'd still like to get that number down," said J.Z. George head coach Ben Burton, who is in his sixth year at the helm of the Jaguar program. The Jaguars suffered through an 0-11 campaign last season.
"We have about 43 kids out after school started. We're looking for some quality backups at running back and quarterback. We do have some guys who can rotate in and out on the offensive line, so that's a plus with this heat."
Burton said his team is coping with the heat just like all teams are right now.
"The weather is something we've got to overcome. We can't be looking for the easy way off the field. There's no shade on the practice field. Other teams are doing the same thing. We've got to get mentally tough and fight through this heat."
The Jaguars kick off their 2019 season on Aug. 23 at home against McAdams High School.
