Winona Christian School’s Blake Marlow will get one more chance to play high school baseball.
Marlow, a Copiah Lincoln Community College signee, was recently selected to play in the MAIS All-star baseball game.
“He has had a great career for us,” Winona coach Shannon Self said. “There are a lot of really good players in this game and it’s a big honor to be selected. I’m really proud for him.”
Marlow hit .323 for the Stars last year with 26 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He was also second on the team with four home runs. On the mound, Marlow pitched 39.1 innings and had a 4-3 record with a 2.67 ERA.
Marlow also played in the MAIS All-star football game as well.
"He is a competitor, and playing multiple sports definitely helped him,” Self said. “He is an extremely competitive kid. He’s a good kid who has worked hard. He loves the game of baseball as much as anybody I have coached. He works hard at it.”
Marlow was also a starter on the football team where he played free safety and fullback for the Stars.
Self said Marlow has been pitching for the Stars since the ninth grade and was a key contributor to the Stars’ 2017 state championship team. This year, he is one of the team’s two district starters on the mound when he isn’t playing catcher.
“He could be No. 1 or 2 and he is one of our district starters,” Self said. “He’s a really good hitter and I think that’s why he has a chance to play catcher in college.”
