The Winona slow pitch softball team lost its first three games last week. The Lady Tigers dropped a doubleheader to Grenada 10-5 and 13-0 and were beaten by Ethel 14-0.
“The box score doesn’t show it, but I feel we are getting better,” said Coach Michael Cox.
Winona did win twice in preseason jamboree games.
The Lady Tigers had 15 hits in the Grenada games, led by Madison Mills with two hits in each game.
Tyra Weathersby had a single and double in the first game, Katy Ware and Allyn Claire Gant two hits each.
Winona had five hits against Ethel, led by Ware with two. “Defensively, we didn’t play very well and we had some walks,” Cox said.
Winona had games with Houston Monday and Eupora Tuesday in the Lady Tigers first Region 4, Class I game at home. There will be a rematch with Ethel at home Thursday and Winona will play Riverside and Vicksburg at Riverside Saturday.
