Leadoff batter Gracie Cordell had four hits and scored four runs, pacing a 15-hit attack by Winona in a 20-4 softball victory over Calhoun City, “We hit the ball really well up and down the lineup,” said coach Michael Cox. ”We made plays. We had a couple of mental errors early in the game, but other than that I was really pleased with the way we played. It was a good day. Something that we needed.”
Cordell had plenty of help with everyone in the lineup scoring at least one run. Madison Mills had two singles and a double, Allyn Claire Gant doubled and tripled, Olivia Swindle and Katy Kendall Ware each had a single and a double and Sara Winters doubled.
Swindle handled the pitching, allowing four hits. “She walked a couple in the first inning, then settled down and threw strikes the rest of the game,” Cox said.
The Lady Tigers will begin Region 5-3A play March 17 with a home game against Humphreys County.
