Winona slow-pitch softball began Class II, Region 2 play with a 15-5 victory over Shannon.
“We started off slow at the plate, but came around in the fourth and fifth innings,” said coach Steven Helms. “We scored six in the fourth and seven in the fifth.”
Tommesha Brown led the Lady Tigers with a double and homer. Tyra Weathersby had a single and double, Abria Weatherby and Hailey Miller two singles each and Mycala Helms a double.
A non-region game with Ethel scheduled for Saturday was canceled because rain has left the Winona field unplayable.
The Lady Tigers was to play North Pontotoc Tuesday and at South Pontotoc Thursday in region games.

“It was one of the worst offensive and defensive games we have played. We couldn’t get anything going,” Helms said.
Brown had the Lady Tigers’ only hit.
