J.Z. George spent two of its Christmas break days in Belzoni competing in the Humphreys County Holiday Tournament.
The Lady Jaguars got a balanced scoring attack as they beat South Delta 45-33 Friday at the tournament. J.Z. George led 12-4 after one, 19-12 at the half and 32-22 after the third period.
The Lady Jags were led by Alyson Anderson’s 10 points. Tyeshia Grant tacked on nine, and Jasmine Newman and Winters had seven each. Natijah Basin tallied six points.
In the boys game, South Delta prevailed 70-33 as it led 19-12 after the first frame, 38-23 at the half and 54-29 after the third.
Normal and Glover led the Jaguars with nine points apiece. Branch had six.
Saturday against Simmons High School, the Jaguars dropped a 59-56 overtime decision to the Blue Devils to fall to 6-9 overall.
The Jags held leads of 16-11 after the first period, 26-20 at the half and 40-36 after the third frame. Simmons rallied to tie the game at 48-48 by the end of regulation. Simmons outscored George 11-8 in the extra period.
Malik Branch led J.Z. George with 22 points. D’Anthony McGlothan tacked on 16 points, and Keldrick Glover had nine. Jordun Normal had six points.
In the girls game, Simmons won 62-25 as it led 13-0 after one, 30-11 at the half and 42-15 after the third.
Jakayla Winters had 11 to lead the Lady Jags (3-12). Aniya Williams had six points.
J.Z. George returns to action on Jan. 10 as it entertains Coffeeville.
