The J.Z. George track team will be sending six boys to compete in the Region 2-3A meet Saturday at Winona High School.
The Jaguars and Lady Jaguars didn't fare as well as hoped at the Division 3-3A meet held April 11 at Winona. The Jaguars qualified for the region meet in only three events, while the Lady Jags failed to finish in the top four in four different events.
For the boys, the 4x800 relay team placed second with a time of 9:44. Members of the team are Devontae Smith, Ceasa Glenn, Malik Branch and Marquinn Watt.
Montavis Jenkins was fourth in the discus competition with a toss of 110 feet, 10 inches. Chris Rias placed fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:52.
Rias had the next highest finish with a fifth in the discus with a throw of 91 feet, one inch. Watt was sixth in the 110 hurdles in 19.83, and the 4x100 relay team placed sixth in 47.11. Quientirus Purnell came in seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.61. Rias had a ninth-place finish in the 1600 run in 6:37.
For the Lady Jags, their best finish was a sixth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 57.65. The 4x200 relay team was seventh in 2:06.33, and Kennedy Johnson was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 13.91. Jacarra Sherrod was 10th in the discus with a throw of 54 feet, and Kelcia Stancil was 11th in the 100-meter dash in 14.38. Tyla Branch was 12th in the discus with a toss of 49 feet, 11 inches.
