The J.Z. George High School archery team qualified for the state competition with its showing at the North half shoot held March 29-31 in North Carrollton.
The team, under the direction of Jeff Fulgham, had a team score of 2,664 points. Senior Wil’Tavious Williams led the way with a 268 total, while sophomore Colten Brashear was next in line with a 252. Senior Shamar Griffin shot a 230, and senior Makayla Miller shot a 228. Senior Jacob Johnson was fifth for J.Z. George with a 227.
Junior Mackenzie Mims was next with a 223, and freshman Daniel Miller shot a 221. Johnny Prescott shot a 211, and junior Rana Al-Rabahi shot a 208. Seventh grader Abby Beech had a 206, and junior Mariah Burns shot a 198. Junior Mikhail Sanders had a 192 total.
The Marshall Elementary team, which Fulgham got started this season, also competed last week. As a team, they had a 2,060 total. Aubrey Carr led the way with a 189, and Olivia Smith had a 188. Jaxson Mulvhill shot a 187, and Avery Holdiness had a 178. Khadejah Davis shot a 175.
Tyler Duren shot a 169, and Mason James had a 168 total. Kelden Blackmon shot a 167, and Bella Jones shot a 165. Ava Hollis shot a 162, and Emma Boyles shot a 160. Charles Ansley had a 152.
Winona High School also competed last week and finished with a 2,944 total. Kirven McCrory led the Tigers with a 272. Jacob Bullard was next with a 271, and Cole Cochran and Noah Durham both shot a 268. Luke Huffman and Emma Marshall shot 253 each, and Cale Bullard shot a 247.
Wheeler Chandler shot a 246, and Alex Blaylock had a 234. Bailey Holly shot a 230, and Mackenzie Vance had a 214. Lilly Dykes had a 188.
J.Z. George will serve as a host site for high school teams in the area to shoot for the state competition starting Monday. Fulgham said teams will be able to shoot Monday through Friday of next week. Each team is competing with other teams throughout the state. Scores will appear on the MDWFP website.
Greenwood schools Pillow Academy and North New Summit are also competing in the archery competition. Both are in the MAIS field with teams in their classifications.
