The J.Z. George boys picked up their second win of the season as the Jaguars knocked off French Camp Academy 54-49 last Tuesday night in North Carrollton.
The Jaguars placed three players in double figures en route to the victory. Ceasa Glenn led J.Z. George with 16 points. Jordun Normal tacked on 13 points, and Malik Branch finished with 11 points.
French Camp led 14-12 after the first period. J.Z. George went in front 26-23 by halftime and a 13-10 run in the third quarter gave the Jags a 39-33 advantage headed to the fourth.
In the girls contest, French Camp held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Lady Jaguars to post a 56-50 win. French Camp led 17-13 after one, 31-21 at the half and 42-35 after the third.
Ta’Shanda Fleming led J.Z. George with 28 points. Natajah Basin had six points.
J.Z. George played at Ethel High School Friday night. The Lady Jaguars dropped a 70-43 decision to Ethel to fall to 1-6 on the season. Ethel led 20-11 after the first, 34-32 at the half and 49-36 after the third.
Fleming led the way with a team-high 22 points.
The Jaguars (2-4) dropped a 69-56 decision to the Tigers despite placing three players in double figures. Malik Branch paced J.Z. George with 13 points, while Jordun Normal had 12 and Kendrick Glover 10.
Ethel broke out in front 16-9 after the first frame. The Tigers outscored the Jaguars 16-13 in the second period and 24-11 in the third to hold a 56-33 advantage headed to the fourth quarter.
J.Z. George played at McAdams High School Tuesday night and will be competing in the Winona High School Tournament today (Thursday) through Saturday.
On Thursday, the Lady Jaguars and Jaguars take on Oxford High School at 4 and 5:30 p.m. Friday, J.Z. George and Winona do battle at 7 and 8:30 p.m., and the Lady Jags and Jaguars play Eupora at 2 and 3:30 p.m.
