The J.Z George baseball team was supposed to kick off the season with games against West Bolivar and Greenville Christian at the West Bolivar Classic, but rain prevented that from happening. Instead, the Jaguars will have to wait until Saturday when they are scheduled to play Ethel and the host team at the Winona Tournament.
“This is probably the most challenging year I have had here without a doubt,” said Coach Wylie Rhodes. “We have only been able to get on the field I think four or five times since we started practicing a month ago.
“We don't have the ability that a lot of places have to practice when we can't get out on the field. We have what we call the old field house. It's maybe 1,000 square feet. The roof is maybe 10 feet. So we really can't do anything in there other than hitting off a tee.”
Fast pitch softball
Rain that has blanketed much of Mississippi in recent weeks wiped out a scheduled J.Z. George fast-pitch softball game with French Camp and forced the Lady Jaguars to hold some practices in the gymnasium.
“We have been doing the best we can with what we have,” said Coach Jamie Tucker.
J.Z. George was to have played Gentry Tuesday and has a home game Friday against Riverside. The Lady Jaguars will begin Region 3-3A play Monday at Choctaw County.
