The J.Z. George baseball team fell to 0-5 with an 11-3 loss to unbeaten Charleston, but coach Wylie Rhodes noted improvement since the beginning of the season.
“We're getting better on the mound,” he said. “Our strike percentage has gone up by about 20 percent. We're throwing a lot more strikes. And our plate discipline is getting a lot better.”
J.Z. George trailed 4-3 before Charleston broke the game open with seven runs in the sixth. “We had one bad inning. We made a couple of errors and let it get away,” Rhodes said.
Robert Pridgen had two hits and drove in two runs for the Jaguars.
It was the first Region 3-3A game for J.Z. George. The Jaguars played West Bolivar Monday and Humphreys County Tuesday and have a home game with Amanda Elzy Thursday. Humphreys County and Amanda Elzy are region games.
