Coming up Thursday after your annual Thanksgiving family dinner, will be the beloved Egg bowl, between the (5-6) Mississippi State Bulldogs and the (4-7) Ole Miss Rebels. Here’s a little bit to expect from the big game.
If the Bulldogs win they will be awarded bowl eligibility. Coming off a 45-7 win over Abilene Christian the Bulldogs are lead by head coach Joe Moorhead, senior transfer quarterback Tommy Stevens, and star running back Kylin Hill. The Bulldogs have struggled this year unlike years past, and bowl eligibility would be a boost of encouragement for the fans and players.
The Ole Miss Rebels are led by head coach Matt Luke, star multi-threat quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, and running back stars Jerion Ealy, Snoop Connor, and Scottie Phillips.
The Rebels have dominated the run game this year, especially Plumlee. Plumlee is third in quarterback rushing with 989 yards and 11 touchdowns in only 8 games (only starting in 7).
The Rebels will not achieve 6 wins but bowl eligibility is hopeful with a fifth win on Thursday. If there are not enough 6-6 teams the Rebels could sneak in based on academic status, which out of the remaining non 6-6 teams, the Rebels rank third.
There are 6 bowl spots left to fill so the Rebels must hope for a win and a max of 3 5-6 teams to win on Saturday.
