On Tuesday, August 13, Winona Elementary school teachers were surprised with a warm back to school welcome from the Grenada Zeta Phi Beta Chapter of the Beta Alpha Kappa Zeta sorority. The local chapter donated gift wrapped school supplies for the teachers, including many everyday items necessary to keep the school day running smoothly. Teachers received supplies such as notepads, staples, paper clips, pens, and more.
Chapter member Dorothy Washington spoke on the importance of giving back to teachers, stating, “They’re our first responders for our little ones.”
This was the mission statement of the chapter’s charitable act, to ensure that teachers knew they are appreciated. Washington also cited the notable contribution of School Board Member Katherine Hughes, also a chapter member, in the project efforts.
