Environmentally friendly energy is just months away from being provided in Carroll County.
Delta’s Edge Solar Farm is currently undergoing construction in Carroll County. Once complete, the farm should be able to provide power for up to 20,000 households according to President of the Board of Supervisors Jim Neill.
Neill said he is hoping the farm will “start producing power in July.”
According to Neill, there are currently 120 construction workers helping to build the facility. Once the construction is complete and the farm begins providing power, only three employees will be required to run the facility according to Neill.
The solar farm project has been underway since 2018, according to previous reports.
The solar farm is a 652-acre site “will encompass approximately 363,000 panels” and was put into motion through the collaboration of Cooperative Energy, which is based in Hattiesburg, Miss. with global power provider Renewable Energy Systems, according to the State Chamber of Commerce Mississippi Economic Council’s website (msmec.com).
“Our continued investment in utility-scale solar generation represents a significant commitment to our members to provide them with affordable, reliable and environmentally-friendly electricity,” said Jim Compton, Cooperative Energy’s president and CEO on according to Mississippi Economic Council’s website. “Delta’s Edge will be the largest solar generation plant in Mississippi and will employ the most advanced solar technology available,” said Compton.
Households in both Leflore and Carroll counties will be provided with energy from the solar farm, according to previous reports.
