The Winona Christian baseball team saw its season come to an end last week in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
The Stars lost two straight games last week, falling 4-1 to Indianola on Tuesday and 9-4 on Friday.
The Stars finish the season with an 8-11 record.
Indianola 4, Winona Christian 1
The Stars outhit the Colonels but still dropped a three-run decision on Tuesday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Indianola scored single runs in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings while Winona Christian scored one in the bottom of the seventh.
Winona Christian outhit Indianola 11-7 in the contest. Tyler Schraenkler was 3-for-3 while Lane Beckwith was 2-for-3 with a double. Will Irwin was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Kaleb McCaleb was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Brannon Hill was 2-for-3.
Austin Horne took the loss on the mound for the Stars, pitching all seven innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out nine.
Indianola 9, Winona Christian 4
The Colonels took an early lead and took a five-run win over the Stars to end their season on Friday.
Indianola scored one run in the first and four in the second to lead 5-0 early. Winona scored two in the third to cut the score to 5-2 but Indianola scored two in the fourth and fifth to lead 9-2. The Stars added single runs in the sixth and seventh to take the win.
Winona outhit Indianola 11-8 in the contest. Kaleb McCaleb was 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Hunter Land was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Austin Horne was also 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Jase Osborn and Tyler Schraenkler each singled and drove in a run while Will Irwin singled and scored a run. Brannon Hill and Lane Beckwith also had singles.
Hill started on the mound and pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits and four walks while striking out three. Parker Watkins pitched the remaining 2 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits and three walks.
