Kaitlyn Scroggs, 17, of Duck Hill, has earned the highest recognition the American Heritage Girls offers to Girl Members, the Stars & Stripes Award. In addition to living out the AHG Creed and Oath, award recipients must earn key badges, hold a leadership role, complete a major service project requiring 100+ hours, submit references, write an essay and resume, and pass a Board of Review.
For her service project, Miss Scroggs chose to serve Southside Church of Christ in Grenada, MS. She planned, fund-raised, and led the construction of a play set and two picnic tables.
Throughout her ten years as an American Heritage Girl, Kaitlyn has served as Flag Ceremony Leader, Color Guard Member, and Greeter, as well as helping to lead younger girls during camping events. In addition to earning numerous badges and patches, including an AHG Faith Award, she has performed 350 hours of service to others—well above the required 100 hours for the Stars & Stripes Award.
Miss Scroggs is a member of the Trailblazer Program and is the 15th girl in Mississippi to earn the prestigious Stars & Stripes Award.
Kaitlyn will be recognized in a Court of Honor Ceremony with family and friends this fall.
Miss Scroggs is a member of First Baptist Church, Grenada, where she serves as the writer and editor of the youth group newsletter and volunteers for VBS, Operation Christmas Child, and Upward Basketball.
Kaitlyn is a homeschool senior at Home Life Academy and Arrows In the Master's Hands Co-op, where she is active on the yearbook staff, student council, and A.I.M.H. Archery team. Miss Scroggs is also a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and Anchor Club International.
She is the daughter of Waymon and Beverly Scroggs of Duck Hill, MS.
