Saralyn Roberts of the J.Z. George High School girls fast-pitch softball team tossed a no-hitter in leading the Lady Jaguars to a 19-0 win over McAdams High School on March 3.
Roberts worked four innings in the circle, walking only one batter and striking out nine. She also excelled at the plate with a single and home run, scoring four times and driving in three runs.
Tysalyn Meeks had a single and triple and scored three runs, and Jaycee Ellett drove in four runs with a single and three walks. Dakiya Robinson had a double, two RBIs and scored three runs, and Cadence Jones had a single and double and scored two runs and drove in a run. Gallaxie Little had a single, two RBIs and scored one run, and Kaylee Wilkinson had an RBI and scored three times.
“I’m really proud of our girls the past several games,” said first-year coach Ben Earnest. “The pitching has been great and our bats are starting to wake up.”
The Lady Jaguars played Region 4-2A foe Union High School in a doubleheader last Thursday night in North Carrollton.
Union won the first game 18-0 as it held J.Z. George hitless and took advantage of nine defensive errors.
Roberts took the loss as she yielded all 18 runs on 14 hits, walking three and fanning three.
In the second game, Union won 18-3 as it scored six in the first, three in the second and nine in the third. J.Z. George (0-2 in region) tallied three runs in the first frame.
Roberts took the loss as she allowed 18 runs on 12 hits, walking seven and striking out two.
Wilkinson and Abbygail Clardy had a single each for the Lady Jags. Clardy also had an RBI. Wilkinson, Roberts and Mikaylah Cobbins scored a run each.
The Lady Jaguars hosted Water Valley High School for a pair of games last Friday night. Water Valley won the first contest 19-1 as it held the host team to a double by Roberts and a single from Olivia Smith.

J.Z. George hung tough with the Lady Blue Devils as they dropped a 15-14 decision in the second game. Water Valley plated three runs each in the first and sixth innings, one run apiece in the third and fifth frames, five in the fourth and two in the seventh. J.Z. George scored one run in the first, three in the second, four runs each in the third and sixth innings and two in the fourth.
Roberts (3-6) took the loss in relief of Jones, who started in the circle. Roberts went all six innings, allowing 12 runs on 12 hits, walking eight and fanning four. Jones gave up the first three runs.
Roberts had a big day at the plate with three singles and a triple. She drove in three runs and scored twice. Robinson had a double and scored two runs, and Jaycee Ellett had a single, two RBIs and scored once.
Cobbins had an RBI single and scored a run, and Meeks had a single and scored twice. Jones had two RBIs, and Smith and Makenzye Holmes scored two runs each.
J.Z. George (3-6 overall) hosts Leake Central on Monday and visits Sebastopol High School Tuesday.

The Jaguars played Sebastopol High School in two Region 4-2A games last week, losing 18-0 on March 3 and falling 16-1 last Friday night.
The Jaguars (0-5, 0-2), who played Riverside and Greenville High Monday at the Riverside round-robin tournament, visit Amanda Elzy on March 17 and go to Union High School on March 18.
