In these challenging times, the call for peace is more urgent than ever. We are bound together as one human family, no matter our race, religion, or nationality. Every act of kindness, understanding, and respect brings us one step closer to the peace we all long for.
The spiritual, political, economic and social climate of our day lets us know that it’s praying time! In Paul’s first epistle to Timothy, he gives Christians clear instructions concerning prayer. In chapter 2:1, 2, Paul writes, “First of all, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.
Let us work together to build a world where peace is possible. In our families, communities, and nations, let’s speak words of kindness, take actions that heal, and create spaces where all feel valued and safe.
Know that Christians have a duty and responsibility before Almighty God to respect and to intercede in prayer on behalf of our political, societal, and religious leaders. The desired outcome being that we may lead a quiet (not troubled by enemies and forces outside our boundaries), and peaceful life, for the church’s prayers help knowledgeable government in maintaining law and order.
What should we pray for? Ask God to give them wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and the means to handle domestic and world affairs in a godly fashion. Pray that they would make God honoring decisions, and be a voice for the vulnerable, the least and the last. Pray that the programmatic thrust of their respective administrations would see to incorporate the goals of equality, fairness, justice and the well-being of all its citizenry.
Saints of God, let’s look into the prayer life of the early Christian church! They knew the power of prayer! Even though they suffered persecution at the hands of political and religious authorities, they knew that they were neither helpless nor hopeless. They recognized their need for prayer, realize the power of prayer, and consistently utilized their spiritual weapon of prayer! No matter the issue involved, they trusted God to move on their behalf. They also knew that intercessory prayer, effectual and fervent prayer of the righteous would avail much! They had seen what God could, and would do.
Peace is possible, and it begins with each of us. So, let us be the peace we wish to see in the world, inspiring hope for a future where every heart, every voice, and every person contributes to a world of harmony. May peace fill our hearts, guide our actions, and transform our world.
