Jackson, Miss. (January 20, 2026) – Community members from across Mississippi will gather at the State Capitol on Thursday, January 22, for Recovery Day, a celebration honoring people in recovery and public health advancements that expand opportunities for recovery. Recovery Day welcomes people in recovery, families impacted by addiction, and anyone who supports a more effective approach to drugs and addiction. Attendees may participate in all or part of the day’s programming.
Jason McCarty, Program Development Strategist at The United Way of the Capital Area, said, “Recovery Day offers an opportunity to elevate voices often left out of policy discussions and to encourage lawmakers to expand access to compassionate, evidence-based care.”
A press conference will be held during the event, featuring people with lived experience, legislators from both chambers, health professionals, and community advocates who will highlight the urgent need for a health-centered approach to substance use disorder.
“Recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and our policies should reflect that,” said Christina Dent, Founder of End It For Good. “When we prioritize health over punishment, we create better pathways for people to rebuild their lives.”
