The Carroll Academy Rebels had a tough week on the diamond as they were swept for the second straight week.
The Rebels lost 8-2 to Winston on Tuesday and then dropped both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday, falling 13-13 and 14-2.
Carroll, now 6-13 on the season, will try to rebound this week as they take on rival Winona Christian in a three-game series. Game 1 is Tuesday at Carroll while Game 2 is Thursday at Winona. The series will return to Carroll on Friday for Game 3.
Winston 8, Carroll 2
The Rebels weren’t able to hold onto an early lead as the Patriots pulled away in the middle innings to take a six-run win on Tuesday.
Carroll scored both of its run in the top of the first while Winston scored five in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Carroll had six hits as Hayden Hopkins was 2-for-3 while Hayes White doubled and drove in two runs. Reid Blaylock also singled and scored.
White started on the mound and pitched five innings and gave up seven runs on seven hits while striking out five. Cole Beckwith pitched the last inning and gave up one run on two hits.
Winston 13, Carroll 3
The Patriots used a steady offense and took a five-inning, run-rule win over the Rebels on Wednesday.
Winston scored two in the top of the first while Carroll scored three in the bottom of the frame. Winston then pulled away and scored three in the second, one in the first, two in the second and five in the fifth.
Carroll had four hits as Reid Blaylock singled and drove in two runs. Hayden Hopkins and Reed Thomas each singled and scored a run.
Blaylock pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up five run-on four hits and three walks and took the loss. Parker Daves pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs with only two earned on five hits. Cole Beckwith pitched the last 2/3 of an inning.
Winston 14, Carroll 2
The Patriots finished off the doubleheader sweep on Wednesday with a pair of big innings to start the game.
Winston scored five in the first and second while finishing with one in the third and three in the fourth. Carroll scored its two runs in the first inning.
The Rebels had seven hits as Hayes White was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jake Truitt singled and scored while Reid Blaylock singled and had an RBI.
Reed Thomas pitched the first two innings and took the loss, giving up 10 runs on 10 hits. C.J. McDonald pitched the final two innings and gave up four run-on two hit.
