Raymond Keys Sanders passed away Friday, January 2, at his home in Greenwood. Graveside services were held at 2 P.M. on Monday, Jan. 5, at Evergreen Cemetery with Dr. Jim Phillips officiated the services. Visitation was held from noon until 1:15 P.M. on Monday prior to the service at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home.
Raymond was born to William Jennings and Ola Key Sanders in Carrollton. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Upon returning home he began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Greenwood where he retired after 26 years of service. Raymond was instrumental in the founding of Twin Rivers and was responsible for building the swimming pool which is named in his honor. He enjoyed building pontoon boats, fishing and owned rental property and several car washes. He was a member of North Greenwood Baptist Church.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Raymond Keys Sanders, Jr., Jeffrey Edward Sanders, a brother Neil Harrison Sanders and a sister Sybil Herbert. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ahlean Brownlow Sanders; a grandson, Joshua Edward Sanders of Brandon and two sisters, Jewel Doran of Collierville, TN, Jeanette Brousard of Gulfport; 2 sisters-in-law, Patricia Noah of McCarley, Cyril Dean Misskelley of North Carrollton and a daughter-in-law, Joanne Robertson of North Carrollton.
