The situation started out with that rabbit again!
Our six year old grand daughter, Addie Sue, came to visit us before Easter. We were looking at my iPhone and an ad for a little bunny rabbit came up.
Addie and I were so impressed with the cute, furry creature that wiggled its nose, twitched its ears, hopped, and looked like it was eating a carrot.
“I wonder if I’ll get a rabbit like it for Easter,” Addie said wistfully while she looked at me with her big, blue-green eyes.
“I don’t know,” I replied, “but you just might.”
Later Jayme came to tell us, “I’m sorry, but the rabbit you saw online was AI. It doesn’t really do all that or look that way.”
Addie and I were disappointed. We felt tricked.
AI or “artificial intelligence powered image generating systems”can create pictures or “photographs” that are so real looking, that it is hard to determine what is real and what is not.
You can easily be deceived by AI images.
AI can even “write” text, summaries, and other forms of text.
Back to Addie and the rabbit. I looked online at all kinds of bunnies like the one we saw in the online ad. Some looked just like it. Some looked like a poor wind-up toy cheaply made.
Choosing one of the most ordered and most popular rabbits, I selected a rabbit for Addie. When the rabbit came, I unpacked it and inserted the batteries.
Addie and her mama came to see us after Easter, and I had the bunny ready for her. I warned her that her mother had been right, the bunny wasn’t able to do like the bunny we saw advertised online, but I thought it was still cute.
Excitedly, she got the bunny and turned it on. “It does hop, tho! And the nose and ears wiggle!” She exclaimed as she played happily.
As society deals with technology, we have to be aware of the dangers and illusions it can bring, Questions of what is truth and what is real abound.
The devil deceives us making bad look good, making false look true, and luring us into sin. So, how can we know what is true?
The Bible tells us Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6.
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32.
“Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me, let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!” Psalm 43:3
There is truth—there is reality!
