Winona High School senior quarterback Chase Richardson was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the 2023 Region 3-3A All-District team, which was selected by the head coaches in the district.
Richardson was the catalyst in guiding the Tigers to a perfect 15-0 record and a state 3A championship with a 34-27 win over Noxubee County on Dec. 2.
Richardson, a dual-threat quarterback who played in the Bernard Blackwell All-Star game last weekend in Gulfport, finished the season with 1,529 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns on 163 carries. He also threw for 2,083 yards on 129-of-222 pass attempts with 25 touchdowns and only four interceptions.
Richardson was named to the Mississippi High School Football Coaches’ Class 3A All-State team as the first-team quarterback following the conclusion of the season.
Junior Tyler Lockhart was tabbed as the Co-Defensive MVP. Lockhart, who was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year for Class 3A, led the Tigers with 104 total tackles (52 solos, 52 assists) with 10 quarterback sacks, 29 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and four forced fumbles.
Senior Kam’ron Robinson has been named the Co-Athlete of the Year. The speedy Robinson, who played receiver and returned kicks, had 56 receptions for 524 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran for 162 yards on 14 carries and three scores.
The Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year is senior T.J. Lockhart, a 6-foot-5, 380-pound tackle. He has verbally committed to Mississippi State.
Winona players who made the first-team offense are junior running back Zaishun Nash, junior receiver Troylando Eden and senior receiver Tristin Purnell, senior lineman Ethan Bailey and sophomore lineman Tekay Smalls, and senior kicker/punter Aubrey Bailey.
Members of the first-team defense are senior lineman Javien Jackson, senior linebackers Fred Clark and Eric Boone, junior linebacker A’jerrian Garrett, senior defensive back Chance Richardson, and senior long snapper Connor Helms.
Winona players who made the second-team offense are sophomore lineman Quan Bland and senior athlete Danarius Robinson. Chosen to the second-team defense is freshman defensive back Yoshawn Hudson.
Players who received honorable mention status are junior offensive lineman Ariq Gross and senior defensive linemen Jakorian Eskridge and Jemarius Sanders.
All-Stars
Clark and T.J. Lockhart will play for Team Mississippi in the 2023 Mississippi/Alabama All-Star football game Saturday in Hattiesburg.
Clark is a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker who has committed to Mississippi State. He finished the season with 76 total tackles (31 solos, 45 assists) with three sacks, 17 tackles for loss, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
