Susan Emmalyn Dantzler, 66, of Bluefield, WV. Resident of Mercer Nursing and Rehab passed away July 5, 2020.
Memorial Services were held at Mercer Funeral Home on Thursday July 9, at 2 p.m. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Private Graveside service will be held at Monte Vista Park Cemetery after the services.
Born March 5, 1954 in Charleston, WV. She was the daughter of Rachel J. & S.W. “Bill” Dantzler and sister of George Edward Dantzler.
She is preceded in death by her parents Rachel J. Dantzler, S.W.” Bill” Dantzler, brother, George Edward Dantzler and Niece, Shannon Louise Cundiff.
She is survived by her daughter Stephanie Lynn Gresssett, four grandchildren Brianna Dawn Comer, Kathryn Jewel Rumley, Philip Rocelia Rumley III, and Steven Powell Jr. of Bluefield, WV. Nephew George Edward “Jay” Dantzler Jr, of Pulaski, Va.
Susan was very active in her teens and twenties. She was involved in Girls Scouts and a variety of sports through high school. She participated in youth activities at Westminster Presbyterian Church and the church choir for many years. She traveled to many different countries with her parents and brother; Germany, Switzerland, Greece, and Italy, just to name a few.
Susan was a 1972 graduate of Bluefield High School. She also served in the United States Air Force between 1975 and 1976. She was Honorably discharged with medical issues. Susan went on to attend the University of Southern Mississippi, where she met her former husband Kenneth Gressett 1978. She graduated from Bluefield State College in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, specializing in Physical and Special Education. She taught in Ohio for 5 years and was a lifeguard during the summers.
In 1990 she moved back to Bluefield, WV and continued to teach. In 1996 she was no longer able to teach due to her health. She had been a long-standing resident of Mercer Nursing and Rehab for twelve and a half years.
