Robert Curtis Reed, 96, of Winona passed away at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona on Wednesday, June 26.
Visitation was at the funeral home on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m. until services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel and burial followed in Old Plank Cemetery near Vaiden. Rev. Billy Little officiated the services.
Mr. Reed was born in West on March 11, 1923 to Dee and Annie Armstrong Reed. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served as an Infantry Rifleman and Cook during World War II in France, Belgium and Germany. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946.
In January 1951, Mr. Reed enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served continuously until his retirement as a staff sergeant in May 1968. During his Air Force career, he served as a Cook and Dining Hall Supervisor, and also spent part of his Air Force tour in France and Germany. Mr. Reed was a member of Shiloh Independent Methodist Church in Attala County, the DAV, and the VFW.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Catherine Rosamond Reed of Winona; his daughter-in-law, Peggy Reed of Winona; granddaughter, Kathy Noah (Michael) of Vaiden; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bobby Reed; infant son, Donald Reed; infant daughter, Mary Reed; one sister; and three brothers.
Pallbearers were Dr. Keith Rushing, Bob Griffin, Griffin Faulkner, Dr. William Morehead, Barry Morehead, and Allen Morehead.
