Rev. Donald L. Sampley, 75 of Vaiden passed away on Monday, Oct. 22, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona.
Funeral services fwill be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Vaiden United Methodist Church in Vaiden. Burial will follow in the Vaiden Cemetery, with military honors at graveside. Rev. Finis Beauchamp and Rev. Doug Warren will officiate the services. There will be no visitation.
Rev. Sampley was born in Fort Payne, Ala., on April 6, 1943, and was the son of the late Rev. Charles W. and Neila Wills Sampley. He was a retired employee of Mississippi Power and Light Company and a United Methodist minister. Rev. Sampley was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, and was awarded a Purple Heart during his service. He was a member of Vaiden United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #52 in Winona, and served as the State Chaplain for Mississippi Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gloria Jean Sampley.
Rev. Sampley is survived by his wife, Mary W. Sampley of Vaiden; two daughters, Angela Sampley King (Timothy L. King) of Vaiden and Amber Sampley Ishee (Brett Ishee) of Pearl; one sister, Mary Eileen Southerland; and three grandchildren, Kolby Lee King, William Kasey King, and Avery Taylor Ishee. Pallbearers will be Tim King, Brett Ishee, Kolby King, Billy Kevin Welch, Matthew Welch, John Eric Welch, Avery Taylor Ishee, and William Kasey King.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Friends of Mississippi Veterans, P.
