Funeral services for Opal Elaine Ellis of Vaiden were held at 11 a.m .on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Vaiden Baptist Church in Vaiden, with burial following in Vaiden Cemetery. Rev. Leon Holly and Rev. Phil McRae officiated the services.
Pallbearers were Harold Gordin, Marion Boggs, Harvey "Bo" Ellis, Ernie Watts, McCoy Phllips, James Funderburk, Gary McGehee, and Jerry Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Lofton and the staff and employees of Vaiden Community Living Center.
Visitation was Monday, from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Elaine, 85, died at Vaiden Community Living Center in Vaiden on Friday, February 9. She was born in Black Hawk on October 16, 1932, and was the daughter of the late R. W. and Sarah Funderburk Ellis. She was a payroll clerk for AT&T in Jackson. After her retirement, she moved to Vaiden in 1998. Elaine was a member of Vaiden Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Live Wires at Vaiden Baptist Church, the Brownline Homemakers Club, Friends of the Library, and Quilters Knot. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Myrtle Ellis Monk and Mary Frances Ellis Burgess; and brothers, James R. Ellis, George F. Ellis, and Albert R. Ellis.
Survivors include her sister, Bitsy Ellis Yelverton (Jud) of Brandon; brothers, William "Bill" Ellis (Linda) of Tupelo, Marvin Wayne Ellis (Betty) of Meridian, and Charles Ellis (Sallie) of Vaiden.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and employees of Vaiden Community Living Center and Legacy Hospice.
