Mrs. Miriam A. Turbeville, 76, of Vaiden passed away in Ridgeland on Friday, March 27, 2020.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic and concern for the safety and well-being of family and friends, the family had a private service and Rev. Philip McRae officiated. Burial following in the Hopewell Cemetery near Vaiden. Oliver Funeral Home of Winona handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Turbeville was born on December 14, 1943, in West, to Melvin and Leona Alexander. After high school, she attended Delta State University where she received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She later obtained a Master's degree with an emphasis on teaching Language Arts/Reading from Vermont College.
Mrs. Turbeville taught fourth and fifth grade English at the elementary school in Vaiden for over twenty-five years before retiring. Although she loved teaching, her greatest joy came in being a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Vaiden United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Turbeville is survived by two daughters, Lori Turbeville Pickle of Madison and Kimberly Turbeville-Daniel (John K.) of Madison; two brothers Louis Alexander (Lucy) of Durant and Ralph Alexander(Ann) of Lexington; three grandchildren, Madeline Grace Pickle, Frank R. "Trey" Thomas III, and Addley Rebecca Turbeville-Fisher; two sisters-in-law, Judy Alexander of West and Linda Hodges (Phillip) of Clinton; one uncle, James "Jimmy" Cox of Vaiden, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Willis Turbeville, Jr.; a daughter, Melissa Turbeville Thomas; a brother, Sam Alexander; and her parents, Melvin and Leona Alexander.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Hopewell Cemetery Fund.
