Mamie Opal Turner Brown

Mamie Opal Turner Brown, of Vaiden, passed away December 26, 2018 at Smokey Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Waynesville, N.C.

Visitation will be from noon until service begins at 1 p.m.  Saturday, January 12 at Midway Methodist Church on Carrol County Road 31. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce is in charge of arrangements.

Opal was born to Ellis and Estelle Turner on Nov. 23, 1928 in Cowpen. She is a graduate of Bruce High School, Wood College in Mathiston, and Delta State College in Cleveland. Opal was a teacher, gardener, writer, poet, and painter.

She published three books: "Against the Darkness of Night"; "Every Little Soul"; and Borrowing Coal". She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Newberry Brown II; her son, Jerry Wayne Brown; a brother, Johnny Turner of Clarkson; and a great grandson, Korbin Brown.

She is survived by four children: Burrell Brown III of Ocean Springs (Wife, Vickie); Rachel Bolick of Eupora; Mike Brown of Duluth, Ga.; and Tim Brown of Asheville, N.C. Opal will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Midway Methodist Church Fund, c/o Stanley Devine, 49702, Highway 430 Vaiden, MS. 39176 


Willie B. Carter, 84, passed away at her residence in Pearl on July 3, 2019.
