John “Pete” Sylvester Galey, 90, of Greenwood died Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
Visitation was 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, until the service began at Williams & Lord Funeral Home at 3 p.m., and burial followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Rev. David Fredrick officiated the service.
Pete was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Black Hawk to Lonnie E. Galey and Anna Ruby Moorhead Galey. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a graduate of Black Hawk School. He retired from Budweiser where he worked as a salesman. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the VFW and enjoyed fishing and bowling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Cotton Galey, son-in-law, Robert Browning, and his parents.
Pete is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Browning and Susan G. Smith and husband Roy all of Greenwood; sister-in-law, Margie Galey of Carroll County; three grandchildren, Jeremy Roy Smith and wife Ashley, Christopher Hunter Smith and wife Samantha, Jill Nicole Martin and husband Chris; and five grandchildren, Hadley Smith, Bentley Smith, Lexi Anne Smith, Mary Alyssa Hays, and Braxton Slaton.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Smith, Hunter Smith, Michael Galey, Matthew Galey, Colby Galey, Mike McLellan, Mack McLellan, and Scott Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were L.V. Robertson, Terry Galey, Jerry Galey, and the men of Calvary Baptist Church.
Military Rites were conducted by Keesler –Hamrick- Gillespie American Legion Honor Guard Post #29.
