Joe Wilson Clark, 66, a lifetime resident of Greenwood, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
Visitation was from 1p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 until service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. Rev. Lanny Haley officiated and was assisted by Russ McPherson. Williams & Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Moore’s Memorial Cemetery.
Joe was born to Mosie Milton (Joe Boy) Clark and Lola D. Heffner Clark on Feb. 6, 1952, in Greenwood. Joe’s parents instilled in him the solid “old school” values he practiced all his life.
He was a 1970 graduate of Greenwood High School. After owning Humpty Dumpty and managing Piggly Wiggly, he decided to start his own business. While reading through the phonebook, Joe saw an ad for a fence company in the yellow pages and decided that he could build fences.
For the past 35 plus years he owned and operated Clark Fence and Awning Company/Fence South Inc. in Greenwood, and proudly serviced customers all over the MS Delta and surrounding areas.
Joe was the president and founding member of Grass Patch Hunting and Fishing Club established in 1976. He served as a past volunteer leader for the Royal Rangers, an Assembly of God program for youth. He was also a drummer in a Gospel band that played at many churches and social events. He won numerous awards in barbeque competitions and was known for his famous tamales.
Joe’s love of the outdoors and pursuit of wild game led him, his brothers, Jimmy and David, and numerous friends including his best friend of many years, Russ McPherson, on many outdoor adventures.
He was passionate about his Lord and Savior, family, hunting, fishing, reading and cooking. Joe was a person that you never forgot and always had a story. He had an outgoing personality and he never met a stranger and was loved by all.
