Joe L. Downs Jr. 93 of Carrollton died at Grenada Living Center in Grenada on Tuesday, December 11
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at Lee Funeral Home and service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church near Carrollton, with burial following in the church cemetery. Rev. Duane Jensen will officiate the services.
Mr. Downs was born to Joe L. and Rosie Lee Wiltshire Downs on June 12, 1925 in Carroll County He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for over 60 years.
Mr. Downs was preceded in death by his parents; son, Johnny Downs; sister, Josie Downs; and three brothers, Jack Downs, John W. Downs, and George H. Downs.
Mr. Downs is survived by his wife, Vera Hopper Downs; daughters, Linda Downs Flemmons and Joyce Downs Vickers; sons, George Downs and Jimmy Downs; sister, Elsie Morrison; brothers, Dan Downs, Robert "Bob" Downs, and Henry "Buck" Downs; ten grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Josh Downs, Jonathan Downs, Jacob Carson, Aiden Farmer, Mason Shelton, Lance Easley, Dylan Black, and Brad Vickers. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Flemmons, Luke Goodnight, Brayden Downs, Peyton Easley, Gavin Vickers, Allen Farmer, Garrett Vickers, and Eathon Shelton.
