Hubert E. Williams, Sr., 77, of Greenwood died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Services were at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018, at Williams & Lord Funeral Home. Visitation was from 12 p.m. until service time. Burial was in Odd Fellows East Cemetery. Rev. Gary Tanner officiated. Williams and Lord Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 28, 1941, to Roy B. Williams and Ruth B. Taylor Williams in Greenville. He was a Baptist. He worked as a foreman for Deviney Construction, a driver for Dr. Pepper, and the City of Greenwood, where he worked the inmates. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christianna Johnson; sister, Lillie Slaughter; step-father, Lee Higginbotham; and his parents.
He is survived by two daughters, Gwen Prestage-Dickerson of Teoc and Jennifer Hodges of Hattiesburg; son, Hubert E. Williams, Jr. of Greenwood; step-son, James Prescott of Greenwood; sister, Betty Jean Payne of Florida; brother, Albert Williams of Greenwood; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
