Henry Stephen Milner, 94, of Vaiden passed away on December 10, 2018.
Visitation is noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 22, at the Oliver Funeral Home in Winona. A memorial service will follow the visitation in the chapel. Burial will be in the Vaiden Cemetery in Vaiden.
He was born and grew up in Vaiden and graduated from Vaiden High School in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Upon his discharge from the military in 1946, he returned to Vaiden to begin his civilian career.
Several years later, Mr. Milner joined the Illinois Central Railroad where his career spanned 35 years before his retirement in 1982. He served the Vaiden Baptist Church as both Treasurer of the Church and Secretary of the Sunday School for 20 years. He was also a member of the Board of Alderman of Vaiden for 22 years.
Mr. Milner was an avid outdoors man and was inducted into The Mississippi Outdoor Hall of Fame in 2014. The mission of the organization is to preserve the history, heritage, and traditions of hunting, fishing and the great outdoors in the State and to honor the people that have been a part of it. Educating family and friends about the vast natural resources of the great state of Mississippi was a
favorite past time for Mr. Milner.
Also, Mr. Milner enjoyed woodcarving as a young boy. He continued to master the craft throughout his lifetime. His works included turkey calls, walking canes, work boots, cowboy boots, and monkeys.
Mr. Milner was preceded in death by his parents, William Walter Milner and Pearl Ferguson Milner, two sisters, a brother and his beloved wife of 52 years, Martha Blanch Pinkston Milner.
Survivors are his daughter, Dianne Milner Barnette, and his grandson, Stephen Davaine Barnette.
