Funeral services for Mr. Harvey Gene Matthews of Greenville were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 22, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Scotland Baptist Church Cemetery in Winona. Dr. Jay Richardson officiated the services. Pallbearers were Tommy Matthews, Mike Collins, Larry Collins, Myron Collins, Edward Watson, and Bracky Brett. Visitation was Monday, from noon until service time, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Matthews, 83, died at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville on Wednesday, January 17. He was born in Kilmichael on December 22, 1934, to Arthur Lee and Ada Elma Moorhead Matthews. He was a retired purchasing agent for Baird and Company Wholesale Hardware and a U. S. Army veteran. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville. Mr. Matthews enjoyed woodworking and loved the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Sue Branch Matthews of Greenville; daughter, Susan Matthews Casey (William) of Greenville; son, Harvey Gene Matthews Jr. (Sara) of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Christine Matthews Watson of Walnut; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
