Fred F. Koopmann, 77, of Kilmichael died at his home on Sunday, July 30, 2017.
He was born on July 13, 1940, in Bremen, Germany, to Wilhelm and Emma Elisabeth Hochartz Koopmann. He immigrated to the United States in 1952 and became an American citizen in 1953.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18, serving eight years and volunteering for two tours in Vietnam. He also served in the Army National Guard in Texas. Mr. Koopmann was a retired carpenter and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church near Kilmichael. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Malone Koopmann, and his parents.
Mr. Koopmann is survived by his daughter, Tia Dee Jones (Jason Massie) of Quitman, Texas; granddaughter, Mamie Alexis Jones of Quitman, Texas; a cousin, Karina Hocharz Faul, of Huntsville, Ala.; sister-in-law, Molly Wansley of Quitman, Texas; and brothers-in-law, Shawn T. Malone of Kilmichael, Charles Malone of Quitman, Texas, and Mike Malone of Lucedale.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 318, Memphis, TN 38101.
