Edward “Ed” Shaw Tharp, 86, of Carrollton died Friday, April 27, 2018, at Golden Age Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Liberty Baptist Church in Carroll County. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Bro. Gary Tanner and Bro. John Gray will officiate at the services. Interment will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. Wilson and Knight Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Tharp was born October 26, 1931 in Webster County to Pervin Tharp and Mary Alice Loyd Tharp. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He retired from Medart Lockers Incorporated, then worked for Cliff Colbert Chevrolet in Grenada, and Cannon Motor Company in Greenwood. He is preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Lou Heath, brother-in-law, David Sellars, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Lou Ford Tharp of Carrollton; daughter, Lisa Gammill and husband Bob of Carrollton; sisters, Ann Sellars of Madison, and Mary Lou DuBard and husband J.T. of Carrollton; brother-in-law, Bruce Heath of Carrollton; grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller and husband Rob, Hollie Climer and husband Brent, Anthony Gammill and wife Mary Loyce, Mary Roach, and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Gammill, Brent Climer, Chip Gray, Gene Costilow, Bob Mobley, and Gage Gammill. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Upchurch, Bruce Heath, J.T. DuBard, Jr., James Narmour, and Rob Miller.
The family would like to thank Golden Age Nursing Home, especially Martha Davis and the staff of the green wing, for his exceptional care.
