Dr. Jana Bufkin of Vaiden was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend who died at UMMC in Jackson on Wednesday July 8th. Jana enjoyed her work as a criminology professor at Drury University in Springfield, MO. Jana was a tenured professor and had taught criminology at Drury since 1999.
She relocated back to Vaiden in 2016 to be near her mother and continued to teach classes online. In addition to teaching, Jana was an avid reader and continued to contribute to her field through research. She enjoyed spending time outside whether it be working in her yard and garden or relaxing in her swimming pool.
She will be great missed by her family, friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by her father Billy Bufkin of Vaiden. She is survived by her mother Betty Bufkin of Vaiden, her sister Jackie Bukin Johnson (Ron Johnson), her nieces Melissa Wright (Justin Wright), Kristen Welch, and great nephew and nieces Jacob, Maggie and Makenzie Wright.
