Alice McBride Dorris, 95, of Carrollton died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Golden Age Nursing Home. Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Williams and Lord Funeral Home. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time. A private burial was in McBride Family Cemetery in Carroll County. Rev. Lanny Haley officiated.
Mrs. Dorris was born October 29, 1922, in Indianola to Elzie M. McBride and Jessie E. Beard. She graduated high school in Indianola, and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. She retired from Leflore County Schools as a teacher’s assistant and was a resident of Carroll County since 1990.
She enjoyed fishing and working in her yard. She is preceded in death by her husband, Abner Dorris; daughter, Jean Jones; son, Jerry Dorris; brothers, Belma A. McBride and William E. McBride; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Green and husband Glenn Green of Teoc; three grandchildren, Candy Vickers and husband Kevin, Payge Thornton and husband Scotty, Chris Thomas and wife Aimee; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Timothy McBride, Alton McBride, Jimmy McBride, Kevin Vickers, Scotty Thornton, and Chris Thomas. Serving as honorary pallbearers were William McBride and Bill Gardner.
