John Wilton “Buster” Skelton, Jr., born May 5th, 1935, in Carrollton, passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Oxford.
Born to John Wilton Skelton, Sr, and Maude Smith Skelton, Buster grew up in Carrollton with two brothers and two sisters, Vernon Skelton, Earl Skelton, Lois Daves, and Betty Jo Brown. He attended Valley High School and played on the basketball team. He met his high school sweetheart, Sarah Elizabeth Dickerson Skelton, married, and moved to Leland where they raised their four children, Mike, Sissy, Roger, and Andi.
Buster is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Skelton, and son, Roger Skelton. He is survived by his children: Mike Skelton (Karen) of Greenville, Marilyn “Sissy” Skelton of Tupelo, and Andi Epes (Pierce) of Water Valley; 7 grandchildren Michelle Smith, Brett Skelton, Tyler Epes, Shade Shaffer, Sydney Epes, Nicole Schuler, and Jacob Skelton; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Carrollton. Burial followed in Moore’s Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Lanny Haley officiating. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
Pallbearers were Brett Skelton, Jacob Skelton, Vernon Skelton, Todd Smith, Grant Shaffer, and Matt Schuler.
