Funeral services for James Carroll Caffey of Winona were held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Moore Memorial Methodist Church in Winona, with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery. Services were officiated by Rev. Rusty Keen, assisted by the Rev. Neville Vanderburg. Pallbearers were Bert Mitchell, Charlie Flowers, Danny Fielder, Clay Hardin, Chris Baker, Jerry Flowers, Madison Caffey, and Jamie Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Hoover, John Flowers, Brian Hadley, and members of the Open Door Sunday School Class of Moore Memorial Methodist Church.
Visitation was from 1 p.m. until service time in the Family Life Center of Moore Memorial Methodist Church in Winona.
James Carroll Caffey, 80, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born on Dec. 24, 1943, in Winona to James Howard and Frances Williams Caffey. He was a 1962 graduate of Winona High School, where he was Salutatorian of his class. He was a United States Air Force veteran, being stationed at Ellison Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska and Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota during his service. After graduating from the University of Mississippi in 1972 with a B.A. in Accounting, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant and was CFO of Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital at his retirement.
A long-time active member of Moore Memorial Methodist Church, he served in several different capacities including member of the Finance Committee, where he served as chairman, and church treasurer. He also served many years as Sunday School teacher of the Volunteer Bible Class and the Open Door Sunday School Class.
Mr. Caffey is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise McGahey Caffey; daughter, Shannon Caffey Davis; son, Conner Caffey and his wife, Angela; six grandchildren, Tiffany Nelms, Jamie Davis, Madison Caffey, Hallie Caffey, Abby Caffey, and Ella Caffey; and one brother, Derrell Raye (Sam) Caffey and his wife, Diane. He was preceded in death by his parents.
