Thomas Edwin Hodges, Sr., of Merigold, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 surrounded by his loving family on May 30, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.
Thomas Edwin Hodges, Sr. was born on August 5, 1940 in Winona, to Thomas Money Hodges and Evelyn Hodges Hester. He graduated from Winona High School and Delta State University with an accounting degree. He first started out at AnnaPeg plantation as the accountant, where he learned to fly crop dusters and got his pilot license. Then went on to start Farm Power Inc., an Allis Chalmers dealership. After that, he had several other businesses and opened Hodges Financial Services. As a lifelong carpenter, he was always building, remodeling, and restoring old buildings and homes. Thomas, with the help of his son, Ted, built his home in Merigold. He loved watching football, old movies, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by son Thomas Edwin Hodges, Jr. (Melissa) of Madison, daughter, Tiffany Hodges Hammons (Bill) of Greenwood, son Tyler Weis Hodges (Olivia) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., brother, Jack R. Hodges (Carol) of Greenwood, brother Kenny Hodges (Kaye) of Spring, TX, grandchildren Thomas E. Hodges, III, Mattox J. Hodges, Gracie C. Hodges, all of Madison, W. Stewart Hammons, III, Katherine M. Hammons, Ansley D. Hammons, Patrick B. Hammons all of Greenwood, Tanner C. Hodges, Grayson T. Hodges both of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Money Hodges and Evelyn Hodges Hester of Winona, and sister, Carolyn Hodges Costilow of Winona.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to sitters Eugene Lewis and Larry Davis, Jr. for the care they gave Thomas.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Dustin Long officiated the service. Pallbearers were Thomas E. Hodges, III, Mattox J. Hodges, W. Stewart Hammons, III, Patrick B. Hammons, Rich Hodges, David Costilow, and Gene Costilow.
Visitation was held Sunday, June 2, from 1 p.m. until service time at Oliver Funeral Home.
