Bro. Dennis McKay passed away at home following a brief illness on Friday, April 12, 2024. Services were held on Monday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home Chapel. His sons Bryan and Brad McKay, along with Bro. Danny Irvin spoke. Bro. Dustin Long officiated the graveside services. Intermittent was held at North Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael. Visitation was from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home.
The pallbearers were Tim McKay, Press McKay, Wes Little, Dusty Jones, Tony Carpenter, and Bill Herod. Honorary Pallbearers were Bobby Carpenter, Bobby Bennett, Allen Fox, and Billy Karolyi.
Bro. Dennis was born to Press and Margaret Conner McKay on February 9, 1948. He graduated from Leflore County High School, Mississippi College, and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master’s of Divinity Degree. Bro. McKay served as pastor at churches in Missouri, South Mississippi, Carrollton and Greenwood where Vine Life Fellowship was under his pastorate for 15 years. He was member of Crestview Baptist Church. He was also a Vietnam War veteran serving in the U S Army. He was a member of the Micheal Ball VFW Post 12191 in Carrollton, and former member of American Legion Post 52 in Winona where he served as chaplain.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue Sumerall McKay, sons Bryan (Lia), Brad (Gail), five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One sister Jo Long and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Preston and Leon McKay; sister, Thelma Young; and niece, Robin McKay.
The family would like to thank Dr. William Harper and Legacy Hospice for their care and support during his time of illness.
