A public hearing is set for next Tuesday, September 30 at 6 p.m. at for the proposed budget for the Town of Carrollton. The hearing will be held at the Carrollton Town Hall.
According to Carrollton Mayor Pam Lee, the proposed budget does not include a millage increase, which will stay at 47 mils plus another two mils for the fire department assessment.
Lee said although the millage rate is the same, some might see a slight increase in the amount they pay this year due to the reassessment of county property.
Carrollton will receive $72,600 in ad valorem taxes this year, up $2,400 from last year’s $70,200. Total expected revenues and expenditures are projected at $640,986. $239,042 of the projected revenues is from grant funding received by the town to renovate the Carrollton Community House.
“The stabilization of fireplace is complete,” said Lee. “We have got a bid to rework all the windows. All will be re-glazed and tightened up and some repairs made. All the windows will be painted.”
Lee said the grant also included funding to purchase a new air conditioning unit for the building, which was recently added to the list of Nationally Historic Places.
As for other special projects this year, Lee said the town plans to finish the current infrastructure improvements. So far, Hafner Street’s drainage ditches were lined with rip-rap, as was the drainage ditch along Peavy Street. Work on Lexington Street near the Carrollton-North Carrollton Library is nearly complete.
Lee said the board of aldermen have discussed other possible special projects, but they have wait to if funds are available in the budget and have to complete other projects already underway.sa
