Two Winona teens have been charged with 25 counts of commercial burglary.
River Lee, 18, of Winona and a 16-year-old juvenile have been arrested and charged with burglarizing 25 units at Winona Mini Storage located on Highway 82 east of Highway 51 in Winona.
According to Captain Dan Herod, chief investigator with the Winona Police Department, the burglaries occurred Monday evening.
“25 individual storage units were burglarized,” Herod said. “[They stole] everything from baseball cards to weed eaters to TVs.”
Herod said it appeared the burglars used bolt cutters to get into the units and cause a significant amount of damage to the unit doors in the process.
Herod said during the investigation Lee and the juvenile were established as suspects. Lee was arrested Tuesday around noon.
Lee went before Winona Judge Alan D. Lancaster in Winona City Court Tuesday and waived his preliminary hearing. Bond was set at $50,000.
If convicted, Lee faces a maximum of seven years in prison for each charge – a total of 175 years in prison.
Herod said the investigation is ongoing.
“More arrests are going to be made and more charges will be filed in this case,” Herod said.
