Librarians from the three Montgomery County public libraries came before the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Monday to provide service updates and submit their proposal for the 2018-2019 county budget.
Following updates on the ever-popular summer reading programs from the three libraries, Winona Montgomery Public Librarian Wendy Rushing presented the board with their annual budget request. This year, the libraries are requesting a four percent increase, from $163,884 to $170,430, an increase of $6,555 over last year’s budget.
The proposed budget is showing increased expenses in personnel of $1,969, an increase in library materials of $1,969, an increase in library program of $597, and an increase in general office expenses of $1,000.
The board took the request under advisement until budget meetings begin later this summer.
In other county business:
• Pat Patterson with Thompson Machinery presented the board with quotes on purchasing two new motor graders to replace two of the county’s 2010 motor graders. His proposal, which included trade-in of the county’s motor graders, quoted two 2018 or 2019 motor graders for $206,000, which includes a three-year, 3,000-hour warranty.
• The board approved hiring a second investigator for the District Attorney’s office.
• Trash collection, which has been late in recent weeks due to truck breakdowns, is working to catch up, but it will likely be delayed again due to the Independence Day holiday.
• The board authorized the purchase of a metal door for the Montgomery County Coliseum for $910.
• The board accepted the Real and Personal Property rolls for 2018, and they approved an advertisement in the Winona Times for residents to come and review the rolls.
